Our endeavors in future commons have been organized into three things – research, design, & build projects. All our research work have been placed under – Our Common Future. On the other hand, design projects have been categorized under – Prototypes for the Future. All things related to our site work and experiences shall be shared under – Updates from the Front. These categories complete our circular approach to practice.

Our Common Future

Research is an important component in our practice. In the upcoming entries, the team will be sharing stuff that we’ve done under this category. In the past year, we have worked with a design firm on a sustainability focused residence in Nuvali, Laguna. The project allowed us to create bespoke parameters which we have translated into sustainability focused design strategies. The team as well as the stakeholders are excited to start the build phase of the project which future commons will be working on.

Prototypes for the Future

This category is all about our design explorations. Coincidentally, Prototypes for the Future is also the collective name of my academic design studio’s term end submission. I have decided to adapt this into my practice since future commons is focused on research based design.

The team will be posting our design explorations on past and current projects. These vary in scale from architectural components to urban-scale interventions. Prototypes for the Future can also be about our speculative works and leanings on sustainability and design.

Updates from the Front

Our work started with architecture and design as focus. In fact, ever since I started my practice, I have always kept away from Construction. Eventually, I realized that to test my ideas I have to sometimes build it myself. So future commons decided to take on build projects as well. It’s been a years since our first build projects and we have learned so much form the experience.

Under this category, we shall be sharing snippets of our experiments at the site. These experiments vary from materials exploration to construction methodologies and processes. Updates from the Front is where we share our discoveries collected from tackling critical concerns such as efficiency and low site impact. We believe that there are valuable learnings from our mistakes at the site.
